The Icelandic Love Corporation
The Icelandic Love Corporation / Gjörningaklúbburinn, which is now made up of visual artists Eirúna Sigurðardóttir and Jóní Jónsdóttir, was founded by them together with visual artist Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir in 1996. Sigrún worked in Gjörningaklúbb until 2016 and graphic designer Dóra Ísleifsdóttir from 1996 to 2001. Gjörningaklúbburinn’s ideas are often related to social issues with feminist emphases mixed with playfulness and refreshing sincerity.
Gjörningaklúbburinn works in the media that serve their ideas at any given time, such as performances, photographs and installations, and often uses their grandmother's engineering, craftsmanship and resourcefulness mixed with modern technology. Gjörningaklúbburinn worked with Björk Guðmundsdóttir for her Volta album in 2007 and over the years has worked on various projects with artists such as GusGus, Ensamble Adapter, Ragnar Kjartansson and Kiyoshi Yamamoto. The performance club hosts a number of solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries around the world, including MoMA in New York, Kunstahalle Vienna, Schirn Kunsthalle, Hamburger Bahnhof, Amos Anderson, ARoS and Lilith Performance Studio.
